Correct procedure to relocate a blog

Hi
I just lost my second WordPress blog.
I FTP’ed the entire root folder of the domain to my local drive.
I then moved the domain to another webserver.
Then I uploaded everything after I created a database with the same name and details.

My theme and plugins are intact, but all the posts are gone.. comments.. everything.. up in smoke.

Can someone please teach me the correct way to relocate a blog. I am starting to develop blogs as a paid service and I will definitely start relocating blogs since I offer hosting as well.

Please help me.
