• This notice appeared on my WP.org dashboard: “Akismet is almost ready. You must enter your WordPress.com API key for it to work.”

I entered it, and it was rejected as incorrect. I checked the number at WP.com, found it to be correct, but tried copy & paste instead of manual entry anyway. Rejected again.

    Suggestions, please.

Look for spaces before and after your API – copy/paste has a way of inadvertently including those now and then.

Thank you, but I don’t think that is the solution. As I stated above, I tried both manual and cut and paste, and at least in the case of the manual entry, I doubt that I put any extra spaces.

I’ve tried again several times since I originally posted, as somewhere I saw a suggestion to wait a while and try again, but nothing has changed.

I’ll go back now and try again, making sure that no extra spaces are entered. Thanks again for your help.

Tried again per your suggestion, jvinch, but still got rejected. I’ve put in a support ticket at Akismet, too, but no reply yet.

What do you think about deleting and reinstalling Akismet. Or, can that be done since it comes pre-installed? (I’m not great on technical stuff.) I’ve already tried deactivating and reactivating it.
