   I am having a heck of a time trying to figure out how to copy code into my footer (like you would for Google Analytics). I go in to the theme editor and click on footer.php but this is what shows up... nothing editable and no html...

   Ask your hosts to turn Frontpage extensions off.

   Thanks for the direction esmi... I will try that. Although I am completely unfamiliar with Frontpage... can you explain to me what frontpage extensions are? (I know that Frontpage is a Microsoft web design software... that is about it. Never used it.)

   That's about all there is to it. FP used its own proprietary extensions to allow non-technical authors to add the kind of interactive functionality that's more usually provided by a scripting language. You don't need these at all for WordPress and they'll just add more clutter to your files & folders.
