[resolved] Copying a custom WP theme (5 posts)

    Hi all,

A few years ago I paid to have a WP theme designed for me because I didn't have the skills to do one myself.

Since then, my skills have advanced from non-existent to very limited, but I have managed to set up a few basic WP sites myself.

Anyway, what I am wondering is: is it possible to re-use the WP theme that I had designed for me into a new WP site? Can I just copy the files over via ftp and edit the appropriate info in wp-config etc?

Many thanks indeed for any help.

    Hi Leedeetee

You should be able to download the folder (via ftp) that your custom theme is contained in and then upload it via ftp to the themes folder of your new WordPress site.

You shouldn't need to update any details in wp-config at all, just login to your WordPress dashboard and activate the custom theme.

Just be aware that if your custom theme was made for an older version of WordPress, it may or may not be fully compatible with the latest version.

    Thanks
    Toherangi

    Hello Toherangi,

Thanks so much for replying - I really appreciate it.

So, can I just get this straight, once I have installed the new WP site, I can download the theme's folder from the 'old' site and reupload to the 'new' site?

    Thanks again.

    All the best,

    Lee
