• hi guys. i’m brand new to all this (still haven’t done my first post! just setting up).

but at this point i’m just looking for “themes” i like. i have looked through the 150+ themes on “themeviewer” and found some that might fit BUT i actually ran across another blog (totally irrelavent to my topic) but i like their layout…

    so my question is
    1) if you find a random blog you like is there a way to just copy their “theme”?
    2) is this allowed? i mean, is it “bad etiquette”? i don’t want to STEAL anything that isn’t out there for everyone to use, ya know?

just wondering if copying THEMES is POSSIBLE and ALLOWED.

    thank you 🙂

  • It’s not possible to just download it as themes are coded in PHP and you cannot view the source of PHP files on other servers. You can use it’s HTML to reverse engineer it though.

However, unless the theme is publicly released by them (i.e. available for download and if that’s the case, no need to do any of this), I consider it VERY bad etiquette to copy a custom, non-released theme. They worked hard on it for their site and by not releasing it, they are most likely saying that they don’t want it showing up on other blogs.

You could also contact the owner…. they might be willing to share.

hey..thanks for getting back to me…i’ll take the bold VERY to heart 🙂

not a problem..that’s what i wanted to know.. i think i’ll just take bits and pieces of inspiration from each of the cool blogs i found and put it together to fit my needs better. that’s allowed, i’m sure.

thanks for getting back to me again!

p.s. oh yeah, now i need to find someone that actually KNOWS how to build these pages…guess that’s going to require a new “help! need to hire someone!” post 🙂

You could also ask us which theme it is. If we know, we could point you to it.

Not that it is, but, if it’s my (personal) theme you’re talking about, you’re in for a hurtin’. 😉
