   Our organization has events every month. They are listed in posts - the posts are essentially the same but with a few changes. I would like to be able to copy a post, make a few changes, and save as a new post. I know I can copy the text but I would like to copy all aspects of the post such as the calendar and categories.

   Sounds like you need post templates, which is a much mentioned feature. We may see if in 3.0. There's a thread in this forum to request features for 3.0.
