Support » Fixing WordPress » Copy a WP site over and over, to new URL's

  • WHAT WERE TRYING TO COPY: We recently developed a universal wordpress site for our small business. We basically created a site that has over 50 custom themes to choose from (which we designed and themed), created a dynamic page so it’s easy to update (header, logo, phone number, etc, etc), all the plugins we constantly use, and the standard set up we always use (two columns, certain widgets, etc).

EXAMPLE: We want to use our master site (lets call it Domain.com and duplicate it for all of our customers (johndoe.com, janedoe.com, smallbusiness.com, photographer.com, etc).

WHY WE DEVELOPED THIS: So we could quickly create simple sites for our clients that were customizable.

PROBLEMS WE’RE HAVING: On our dedicated server, I thought we were going to be able to stage/clone the original website. However, when I copy/clone the database and content file to the new site, the admin log-in page redirects to a origin website (domain.com).

    WHAT I’VE TRIED TO DO:

    1) Install a fresh wordpress site and replace/overwrite the entire WP-CONTENT Folder (didn’t work at all, still looked like the original, fresh wordpress install).

    2) Completely clone the original site (didn’t work. When trying to log into the admin, it redirected me to the master site: domain.com/wp-admin)

QUESTION: Does anyone know how to easily duplicate a current website to an entirely new domain so that all the settings are the “exact” same except for the URL?

WHAT WE’RE WORKING WITH: We have a Linux Dedicated Server running Plesk 10.1.1.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I thought I would of been able to find an answer to this but I can’t seem to find it anywhere.
