[resolved] Converting existing "Pages" to Custom Post types (9 posts)

I really need to create a new set of pages right now in a 2.92 site. But if I were on 3.0 already, I'd want to make them a custom post type instead. But I'm hearing this is 2 weeks out at least.

    So...

In 3.0, can I convert a normal Page to a Custom Post Type? Likely not in Admin, so if it's not, would I just be able to go into the database and change the post type field to the name of the custom post type, from "Page?"

There's isn't a 'admin' choice to change a post type of a given entity, but sure, changing the post_type using phpMyAdmin.

Of course, always backup your data before making changes like that to your database.

  4. There may be some plugins. This came up on a search: http://www.briandgoad.com/blog/downloads/p2pconverter/

    Thank you both for responding.

I'm waiting for Beta 2 to load on 3.0, so I don't know what fields are different yet. Do either of you or anyone else know if it is just the one field in the table that I can change and presto! it's a custom post type?

Thanks MichaelH. Cool. So I can create my pages, and when I put on 3.0 I can go into the database and change them to a custom post type I'll have created. I should also be able to modify what custom taxonomies go with it, from what I've read.

But, darn, I think Beta 2 is going to be out within a day or two, right? If so, I'll have what I need in there.

MichealH, not sure it does specifically what I need, but very cool! Thanks.
