Content on main page only... (2 posts)

I'm making some changes to my personal blog. However, I've got a problem I'm trying to workaround.
Posts, pages, comments, everything in Word Press is somewhat based from index.php

There is a welcome message and a couple of graphics that I only want to appear on the main page of my blog:

    http://www.domain.com/main/

I added the content not thinking about the scenario explained above, so now on every page, including each post, the static content welcome message and graphics are now appearing.

Is there a string of code I could add that would only process the code if the user is pointing to the main page without any variables behind it?

I tried creating a seperate index file but realized this won't work since WordPress uses a skinning system that has all sorts of little variable configured.

But, if there is a string such as the one I mentioned above, it should do the trick.

What would that string be, or is there a better way to accomplish the result I'm looking for?

The Codex article, Creating a Static Front Page may have the info you need.
