What contact form plugin are you using?
I’m not using any plugin. I just used the contat.php as the template for the page. if that can help. do I have to use a plugin for the contact page? thought it should be pretty straighforward…

I’m sorry if I sound redundant but in drupal, contact form works out of the box. does it mean that in wordpress the contact form won’t work without the use of a plugin??
Correct. It is not part of WordPress core.

Generally speaking, WP core publishes Pages, Posts & comments. Apart from a few fancy post listing pages (list by tag, by date or by category), pretty much every other bit of pretty functionality needs a plugin. So if in doubt, have a look through http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/
