I’m building a MAMP sandbox on my Pro, to better understand my wordpress.com CMS (thomasdocheri.com). I may move from .com to .org but at this point I’m trying to understand the structure and art of wordpress.org. My first step, almost completed was to build my sandbox exactly as my real .com site is configured. Problem is, twenty-eleven .com theme contains a default contact form builder and the .org version does not, or at least, my implementation isn’t working. I exported the XML at .com and imported into MAMP. This code works in .com:

    [contact-form][contact-field label='Name' type='name' required='1'/][contact-field label='Email' type='email' required='1'/][contact-field label='Website' type='url'/][contact-field label='Your Message' type='textarea' required='1'/][/contact-form]

The above code does not resolve in .org. I see the HTML when I view the page containing my contact form.

I’d like to install the exact contact form builder feature or plug-in that the .com twenty-eleven contains. Once I’m satisfied I have an identical sandbox I’ll begin the serious customization.

    Thanks for your help.

  • Try installing Jetpack.

Thank you esmi. Good try but…

Installed it, activated it and even updated the page containing the code but the page still displays the html rather than the resolved form. What am I missing? Is it possible to inspect the .com version to see what plugins are installed?

I’m pretty sure it’s just Jetpack but you could try asking on http://en.forums.wordpress.com/

Pilot error. You activate Jetpack when you install it but its Contact Form manager must be activated separately. Once I did that my original code worked as expected. Also, “Add Contact Form” now shows in Edit Page. Thanks esmi; you’re a peach.

Not so fast! Esmi, you’re still a peach but when I hover over the “Add Contact Form” at wp.com I get Grunion Contact Form, v2.3, by our friends at Automattic. Except, detail page says “Compatible up to 3.3.2. So, a bit of a mystery here. Thoughts?

If you drill into Jetpack, at ../plugins/jetpack/modules/contact-form there is a readme.txt, that says Jetpack’s contact form is “Grunion Contact Form,” v2.3. Mystery solved. Don’t you just love open source?
