Contact Form 7 – New Telephone number field

Following very carefully the instructions, I was able to place a new field for a telephone number field on the form. I placed the new box in between two existing boxes.. However the new box appears in a totally different size as the rest, and with different border, also it is spaced incorrectly (closer to the following field, and further from the one above.)
can anyone help me what to do? I am afraid messing around with codes and CSS files. Would there be an alternate way to address my problem?
