Contact Form 7 errors

    Hi,

    I posted a couple weeks ago — we are using Contact form 7 as a registration form for a non-profit organization. We anticipated a high number of registrations from March 20-22 due to advertising during the NCAA wrestling tournament and were worried that the form might have issues.

    In anticipation of this, it was suggested that this was more of a website hosting issue and not a plugin issue, so we upgraded our hosting to a dedicated server. However, the form did have issues.

    We received over 10,000 registrations in the past few days, and had problems with at least 1,000 of them.

    Many users were getting the error message “Failed to send your message. Please try later or contact the administrator by another method.” People are still experiencing these issues evern though the surge in traffic should have ended last night.

    Their registrations are either not going through at all, or they are getting that error message on the front end, but the registrations are actually going through to our contact form 7 database on the back end.

    People are still emailing me with registration issues, is there anything we can do to stop this from happening? As mentioned, we are on a dedicated server now so that should have helped with the traffic issues, so I’m not sure what else to try.

    1 in 10 failure rate indicates that email sending through your particular WP configuration is dedendent on some input in your form. Often this is due to using a collected email address in your form email headers.

    ​If you have all CF7 form submissions in your WP database, you should look through them to compare details of forms you are not receiving with those you are.​​

    Not sure what you mean by “collected email address” — can you please clarify?

    I mean any instance where you ask the user to input their email address and then use that input information in the CF7 Mail section in either the From: or Additional headers: fields.
