   Ok
   so I have installed the plugin, enabled askimet and captcha.
   GD and free type lib are enables on the server.
   the /wpcf7_captcha folder has been created in wp-content/uploads.
   And permissions are set to write.

   YET

   This contact form contains CAPTCHA fields, but the temporary folder for the files (/public_html/.../wp-content/uploads/wpcf7_captcha/wpcf7_captcha) does not exist or is not writable. You can create the folder or change its permission manually.

   Oddly it says wpcf7_captcha/wpcf7_captcha...

   Anyway it doesn't work at all!

   And all of a sudden ...it worked...when I replaced the full path with only /wp-content/uploads/wpcf7_captcha

   If you have WP 3.0 the miscellaneous page doesn't exist anymore. The Uploading Files section can be found here:

   Dashboard >> Settings >> Media >> Uploading Files
