Connections works in my admin back-end...entries are saved, I can see them in when I view the updated pages from admin. All are set to "public."
But when I log out, then open the page as a user would do, I get "no results" when I open the pages that contain the shortcode.

Confession: I'm an idiot!
After deactivating other plug-ins, switching to a new theme, etc. etc. I went back in to check all the "Connections" settings one more time...and realized I had NOT put the check in the box for this choice, right at the top of the page:
Public Entries Allow unregistered visitors and users not logged in to view entries (When disabled, use roles to define which roles may view the public entries.)
Checked the box and it's workign very well now.
Lesson: Read the $%#^&*% settings page!
