• For some reason the connection between my host and wordpress isn’t working. Is this something that’s wrong with wordpress or my host? My host still hasn’t emailed me back and its been 3 weeks so I thought I’d come here with my question. I’ve deleted wordpress, reinstalled it and nothing changes. I don’t even get my comment e-mails. Help?

If you just installed WordPress and it isn’t working, then you have probably entered the wrong information in your wp-config.php file. If WordPress was working before and suddenly isn’t, then MySQL has unexpectedly gone offline. If your hosting provider has disappeared for three weeks without notice, then it’s time to move to a different hosting provider.

Thanks for the reply. I didn’t install it myself. My host installs it for me. I noticed that it wasn’t working right before I reinstalled. I would change something and it wouldn’t show up, then I wondered if I deleted it and installed it again if it would change, but all my old entries and layouts are still there, but not in my file manager, nothing has changed on my webpage. I can still add entries and everything, its just the connection between the two isn’t working?

all my old entries and layouts are still there, but not in my file manager
That’s normal: you cannot see your entries in the file manager – they are stored the mysql database.
What do you mean saying you can add entries but there is no connection? Connection with whom? what?

my host and wordpress. I can get into wordpress fine, and I can get into my control panel fine, its just the connection between the two isn’t working. I can make changes to my layouts, add layouts, delete old layouts, but then in wordpress nothing changes. I’ll even change my sidebar and other various things and on the webpage it won’t change. I just don’t know where the problem is, the host or wordpress?

This sounds as if you’re uploading your changed files to the wrong folder. Are you sure you’ve got the path right?

Oh. Are you trying to edit files from INSIDE wordpress? If so, your files must be writeable on your server. If this is what’s happening, you’ll see a message at the bottom of the edit screen that says “if this file was writeable….” etc.

No, I’m changing files through my file manager, I’ll change one word on the sidebar and that’s it and it won’t show up. But now the theme isn’t even in the file manager since I deleted it and installed it again, so I can’t really change anything. So confusing, I know!

Are you telling file manager to save the file? When you go back to the file in your file manager (is this cPanel?), is the change you made still there?

Yep, When I go back the changes are still there in the file manager in my cpanel. I have no clue why it’s not working. My host hasn’t replied to my e-mails so I may have to just switch hosts and start over..
