actually this is a mix of a few problems. but i feel they are somehow connected to each other. so here it goes...
1) i can't auto-update any plugin. everytime i try to auto-upgrade a plugin (disabled or enabled doesnt make a difference) i get the message "Download failed.: Failed to connect to 72.233.56.138: Permission denied"
2) i can't retrieve new plugins details (when a new version becomes available). when i try that i get "An Unexpected HTTP Error occured during the API request."
3) after the first 2 problems occurred i noticed that the wordpress dev blog as well as the other WP news in the dashboard hadn't been updated for quite some time
so that's it. i don't even remotely know where to start with this and would appreciate any help!
thanks in advance!
cheers

resolved...of course it was a problem with my webserver. they simply don't allow that kind of connections. but they at least had the wordpress-ip opened. so all is good now :)

I just installed WP on a site that's hosted on aplus.net. And I'm having the plugins API issue and the dashboard rss feeds errors you've listed above.
What exactly did you ask/have your webserver do to resolve?
Thx!

at some point they started blocking external connections from my wordpress-installation (probably global external-site-PHP-disallow!?). but after my support-request they re-enabled the specific wordpress-ip (the one from the error-message). so that the WP-installation can reach the external site again.
after that plugin-infos, download/update etc worked fine ...
hope that helps!
