Conditional Statements and Comments

Is it possible to write some sort of conditional statement that will allow me to insert a class name in my comments link after there has been at least 1 comment?

I want to be able to turn my blue ‘No Comments’ link into a red ‘1 Comment’ link (or however many comments there are), to show that people have responded.
