• OK, here’s my first attempt:

It goes some way to explaining what I hope to achieve,
in a general fashion. I have some ideas, but they’re flexible
to a degree, depending on what I decide is the best of
the available options. (Or what I’m persuaded)

There are hundreds of pictures involved. It seems that
grouping them by decade would be a good start. (Many
of them don’t have the year taken available). An Introductory
    (front) page also seems appropriate.

Then a link to each decade (another page[s]?). Then some
sort of thumbnail slide show, with either auto or manual
advance. The ability to click a thumbnail for a larger
image. target="-blank" stuff. An option to jump to another
decade (page) if in the wrong era?

Usual place for comments. Moderated before being
visible, perhaps? Some sort of declaration that free use
    with acknowledgement is OK?

    Anything else?

I’m starting with a few vague concept notions, here. If
anyone else has “been there – done that,” please let me
    know what you decided upon.

I’ve been told that there are a number of historical societies
which have implemented something like this. If anyone knows
of such, please point me in their direction.

  • I’m wondering if someplace like SmugMug would be a better place to put all your old photos. I use it for all my photos now. You can also embed slideshows etc in a blog or website too. You can have different themes for different galleries. You want to get a feel for it you can look at one of mine Smugmug accounts http://gramps50.smugmug.com/

Good luck with your project, what a cool idea

Certainly an idea. I have accounts @ Photobucket, Webshots and flicker. I find Photobucket the easiest to use. Although something’s amiss, for the moment, as I can’t get

      this slideshow

to run correctly. Maybe you’ll have better luck?

(Can’t stop the screwball formatting – sorry. Tried 3 edits)

I took a cursory look at your efforts, Gramps. (I get called Grandy or Poppa, by mine). I wonder if combining the two would be better? My initial observation was that you had many layers to your album structure. I.e. it took some persistence to get deep enough to get a slideshow running.

But your suggestion has added to my fund of ideas – thanks. And it’s ideas and concepts which I need to garner and ponder, before getting too far advanced in whatever I do.
