• I am already running a wordpress business directory that has locations and categories used to sort business listings and geolocate for users. Can your plugin be used with the custom tables? The theme uses tax-ait-dir-item-category as the taxonomy for categories and tax-ait-dir-item-location for locations. I would want the plugin to pull categories and locations from existing data. thanks

it’s possible but you need custom php coding to connect or let EM pull your existing categories and locations.

Is it possible then to just make the plugin share the same tables? how hard would this be?

    Hiya,

This would be a very substantial undertaking requiring you to effectively rewrite large portions of EM in order for it to understand and process the schema used by your business directory.

It’s not a simple case of sharing the tables.

    Thanks,

perhaps i need to seek an alternative method for allowing users to submit geographic category based service requests then. I want to be able to let users say they are looking (just an example)for a “Computer Repair Tech” within “however many miles of current location” with a “scope of work field). Then once they submit this form, businesses listed on the site who fit both the geographic and category parameters of the request will be able to respond with a quote or estimate or followup. This could be an incredible tool for business’s and consumers alike if i can figure it out.

One workaround might be to make single events in Events Manager the business listing, since EM has geo search included.

You’d need to modify your templates to remove all mentions of events and dates, since that wouldn’t apply, and give each event / business listing an end date far into the future so that it stays live.

I will definitely take a look at that. I dont know if i want events manager to actually create business listings because the theme itself handles that, i was just hoping it would allow the buddypress subscribers to submit these to listing subscribers.
