company intranet w/ unique locals/plants

Hello Everyone,

I have the following task for a WordPress site. It is an intranet/employee website for a company with multiple plants.

So, the following is requested:

• same overall theme for each plant
• unique header for each plant
• “corporate” office able to post content that appears on all plant “sites”
• unique content for each plant site
• user sign-up for user to choose their plant upon sign-up

I think as one can see, this intranet is to allow corporate to post content once and it is pushed to all the plant views – while a plant admin posts content just to their site. And a plant user only views content on their unique plant.

I’ve been advised to use multisite. However, upon viewing some beginner tutorial videos, I don’t see multisite meeting the above needs. And I don’t see its advantage to meet this project’s directive.

Also, BuddyPress has come up a couple of times. I thought this too was “overkill” for the need as their really won’t be any input from regular users (employees). Just plant managers and corporate manager will be adding content.

Can anyone give me some clear directive on how to get started with this project?
