Hello folks. I wanted to put our little community blog on the communal chopping block. Our site is cVillain.com . We have gotten pretty popular in the last year and are finding an incredible amount of commentary on our site. We have made some major efforts to create a design that is engaging and user friendly, but we are running into limitations with what we can do with the boatloads of commentary.

A few unique things about cVillain.com:

    1. We let users submit and write posts. We approve them, but there is an open invitation to be on the front page.
    2. We have so much commentary, a lot of the value in comments is too deep for a casual reader.
    3. We run "Free For All" posts to give people an open thread to talk about whatever they want.

We are thinking about implementing BB press and asking people to use the forums to do more topics. What do you think? How do we improve our blog to make it more community oriented? How do you support valuable commentary vs the noise?

    Please be mean! Thanks!

I think that you should consider Simple:Press. I use it and love it - easy to skin, integrates flawlessly, etc. It's got user group/permission function too. You can make a post and choose to have a corresponding topic in the forum, with a "Discuss this topic in the forums" link. I love it. You can get it here:

Depending on which contact form you use, you may have problems. I had to switch to this version of wp-contactform.

I made a GDK - a layered .psd file for the forum buttons/icons and made it available at my site:

That post has the "Discuss" link, feel free to check out the forums and see if you like the look of it.

Rose, I think it looks nice, but I like how bbpress displays content; it's very similar to wordpress and would make the transition easier. I look at SimplePress in more detail .
