Many years' worth of comments on my Yahoo Small Business-hosted blog and in my WordPress dashboard have vanished, and the notification emails about new comments are arriving blank.

The last non-blank comment that I received an email notification for was June 26, 2014, at 2:14 a.m.:

A new comment on the post "Summer reading and home library suggestions from the ALSC" is waiting for your approval

[Blah, blah, blah -- the comment was actually spam, but it was still a step up from what followed.]

The next comment that I received notification for, at 8:01 p.m. that same day, was blank:

A new comment on the post "Bigger than a book: my new, (no longer!) secret project" is waiting for your approval

I'm at a loss as to how to fix this -- how to recover my old comments and regain the ability to moderate new ones.

Can any of you please help?

Yahoo may be experiencing database problems.
Have you discussed this issue with Yahoo?

Hi, Tara -- thank you. And yes, I have been in touch with Yahoo, but so far, I'm hearing how they don't support WordPress. I'm trying to get them to see this as a database issue rather than a WordPress issue. Any key words or terms to drop with Yahoo customer service would be much appreciated.

In the meantime, do any other likely explanations come to mind?

Before trying all sorts of other troubleshooting steps, first find out what's going on at your server.

You were right on the money, Tara -- it was a Yahoo database issue. It's been fixed, and all is well (except for a few lost comments following a "corrupted entry"). Thanks for your encouragement and support.
