Parent and child Pages all use exactly the same template (page.php) in Twenty Ten, so this is not a theme issue. Ensure that you have turned off all comments for each of the child Pages.
there is only the ‘settings’ ‘discussion’ page with options;
and below each page in the ‘edit page’ page, another ‘discussion’ box.
sub-pages are no different in this aspect.
to get the ‘discussion’ box in the ‘edit page’ page, you might need to click ‘screen options’ near the top right of that page first, which gives you a list of tickboxes to enable various fields.
Thx for the replies – I have done both – the Screen Options window shows the Comments Box unchecked and yet the Comments still appear.And I have accessed the General – Discussions and unchecked the “Allow people to post comments on new articles? and saved and still they appear on all the “child pages”.
the Screen Options window shows the Comments Box unchecked
the box needs to be checked so that the actual ‘discussion’ box can appear below the page editor in the ‘edit page’ page.
(all the option tickboxes in the ‘screen options’ are only there to enable the real boxes in that page.)
Thx alchymth! That was the problem as when Discussions was not ticked, then I could not untick the Comments box below!!!! Just another bump in the road of learning WordPress “logic”. Many thx for alleviating my headache!
