   I know this problem has been asked many times, though searching through the other threads on this don't seem to help(!).

   Basically, I have the comments form displaying on my website, and what seems to be all the right tags in the right places - I don't even receive any errors! Just for some reason, the actual comments don't show up.

   Note that switching to the TwentyEleven theme DOES show the comments, so it's something i've done, but I don't know what!!

   You might try replacing the output with that of your theme.

   This is a complicated comments template compared to what I ussually see. not sure but it's possible your theme does not have some of the div's that blank slate has, such as:
   

   <div class="paginated-comments-links">
