When a comment appears, but displays “Your comment is awaiting moderation”, only the comment’s poster can see it.
It shows like that so people know it worked ok, but if anyone else looked it won’t be there until it is approved.

This is a little OT, but does anyone know why I need to prefix my permalinks with index.php. If I use the regular expression: /archives/%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/ nothing shows.
Its just that it really screws up my dynamic menus with the index in my permalinks.

Sorry if I am hi-jacking but I was about to post this same question regarding comments showing that need moderating.
To satisfy my curiosity, can anyone confirm how WP knows if the person viewing the page is or is not the same person who left the comment? I assume it is via the users IP but it woujld be nice to know for sure…?

Are you running Spam Karma? That authorises commenst staright away I think.
No – am running nothing but default 1.5.1 – I can understand why I can see the yet to be moderated comment as it was a dummy I put in myself for testing – hence it has my IP address – I was just asking for clarification on whether t is the IP that determines visibility.
Having not yet gone ‘live’ with this, the joys of spam comments are unknown to me!
admin comments are not moderated.

It looks for your admin cookie. If you are currently logged into WordPress as the admin user, your comment will automatically approved.
My mistery is… Why ALL MY comments are moderated? If I’m admin and I’m logged as the admin! Can somebody help me?
(I’m not check the opcion for moderate all the comments)
