Comments exist but are not displayed

Hi. I’ve spent about 40 mins searching for an answer so apologies if it’s come up before…

I have posted two sample comments on a post and I’m trying to get the comments to show on the permalink page. The ‘Leave a Reply’ header and text box appears but the comments aren’t being displayed beforehand as they should.

In the source code I see this comment: <!– If comments are open, but there are no comments. –> which from looking at the code in comments.php says that there are no comments or comments are not open. I checked on the edit page and the “Allow comments” option is checked. I checked the Discussion Options and “Allow people to post comments on the article” is checked, so I can’t understand why the two comments don’t show.

Any ideas?
