• This morning I received an email that a comment had been posted to my blog, which is normal, except that the comment was blank:

    Author : (IP: , )
    E-mail :
    URL :
    Whois : http://whois.arin.net/rest/ip/
    Comment:

When I checked my blog all comments on the blog were suddenly gone. The dashboard showed no comments and when I tried to comment on a post I got:

    Not Found, Error 404
The page you are looking for no longer exists.

I have not recently changed the template or added new plug-ins.

    My blog is: http://www.oldsaltblog.com/

Does anyone have any idea what has happened or how to fix it?

    Thanks,

    Rick

After trying a number of things that did not work (deactivating plug ins, reinstalling WordPress and so on), I backed up the site on my server, just in case. Whether a coincidence or having something to do with a data abase problem, the comments reappeared and now readers can make comments without getting a 404 message.

I am still clueless about what happened and why but the comments are back and all is well with the world for now.

It’s either a database corruption issue (happens) or a security hole in a plugin/theme. Or in WP, but that would be more wide spread, I’d think.

You can check your access logs (on your server) and error logs (ditto) to see what may have happened around that time.
