im having this problem no won my new blog: http://www.heycavey.com
The comments appear in a big long string, and refuse to nest no matter how i change the settings in the dashboard
is it a problem with the theme? How can i fix it?
can anyone help with this? is the problem the theme?
Do comments nest properly if you preview the site using another theme, ie. goto the theme page, click Preview under the default theme, then click one of your posts with comments inside the preview window, do they nest as they are suppose to?
That will at least determine if the problem is with the theme or something else.
Hi t31os_
they nest if i use wordress default, but not if i use wordpress classic
Does your theme’s comments.php have a line with wp_list_comments()
on it?
no – searched for ‘list’ all i have is:
<ol class=”commentlist”>
<?php foreach ($comments as $comment) : ?>
im using the manhattan theme
http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/manhattan
That will likely be why you don’t get any threading, try switching to wp_list_comments()
, example can be seen here.
http://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Tags/wp_list_comments
thanks t31os_
The comments now nest with a ‘reply’ button (but only for the initial comment, you cant reply to replies??)
the comments then appear in a list underneath. What do i need to modify to get rid of this? ive been fiddling with it for nearly an hour and im totally stumped :/
A good example of what its doing is here:
http://www.heycavey.com/index.php/2010/06/cavey-avaliable-june-28th/?trashed=1&ids=33
if you’ve put the wp_list_comments() in your template it will produce the first comments. And the list of comments at the bottom is the comment loop in your comments.php. did you custumize the comments.php. If so, download Manhatten again and put the original comments.php in your theme. See what happens. Also validating sometimes helps
thanks keesiemeijer but i think ill just have to leave it as it is – at least people can reply now. My knowledge of css is too small 🙁
That’s to bad but I think it is a html/php error. Can you put your single.php and comments.php in the pastebin Maybe I spot the error.
There’s a setting in Admin > Settings > Discussion..
“Enable threaded (nested) comments X levels deep”
What do you have this set to?
single.php http://wordpress.pastebin.com/ibwMTYQ2
comments.php http://pastebin.com/03dFys13
thank you keesiemeijer
t31os_ – “Enable threaded (nested) comments 10 levels deep”
Ok I will look into it. I see you have the wp_list_comments() in the comments.php (as I suspected). Do you like how the top comments are looking right now or do you want to change that.
You can use the comments.php from the default theme. They are nearly identical and that one works.
