   "Comments are off" appears in all my new posts. When I go to edit these posts, under Comments & Pings, Allow Comments & Allow Pings are disabled. I enable both, and press save. After it saves, I check again, and Allow Comments & Allow Pings are still unchecked. Any ideas?

   I'm getting something similar. All previous posts default back to "Allow Comments" unchecked.
   And this obviously prevents people from posting which sucks as a relatively new blog.

   Any ideas anybody???

   I also have something like this. In my settings, I've checked that by default, comments and pings should be allowed. But on each individual post, they never are by default. I have to save the draft for the option of enabling them to appear and then check the boxes.

   It wasn't always like this; it was only after I updated once.

   Try changing your theme to the default theme and disable all plugins then test your comments, if they work, re-enable your theme and plugins one by one until you find out which one is the culprit. I have seen this problem a couple of times and it was fixed in both cases by finding the problematic plugin.
