"Commenting" options keep resetting (2 posts)

I used to have an issue where every six months of so, the options would reset themselves of their own accord. The resets would include things like unchecking "Allow Comments" from each and every posting; checking the box under Options/General for "Users must be registers and logged in to comment," and checking the box under Options/Discussion for "An administrator must always approve the comment." I don't want it to do this. And it was bad enough when it happened every six months ago. Then the period dropped to about a month, then a week, now it's once a day.

This is effectively shutting down discussions.

    1) What's going on?
    2) How can I make it stop doing this?
    3) How can I globally reset "allow comments" without having to click that box in Every Single Posting?

Try deactivating all plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the Default theme (WordPress 1.5 - 2.9.2) or the Twenty Ten theme (WordPress 3.0 and higher) to rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can sometimes affect the admin panel, though this is probably not the cause).
