  • I’ve used Extra Comment Fields to set up a pull-down field where the commenter can choose an icon to be associated with their comment. The icon is then displayed with the comment itself, as well as the recent comments list in the sidebar. It works, but only on pages and posts that already have comments. If a page or post does not have existing comments, or if it’s a page of posts, no icon is displayed until a comment is posted.

The issue seems to be that the pages with comments are returning the icon value from the database, but the pages without comments are not. Once a comment is posted on the non-commented page/post, the value is returned, and the icons show up. I’d post a link, but everything’s being tested locally right now.

So, why would a comment need to be posted to a page in order to return a value from the database? Where would I start looking to fix this? Any ideas?
