comment moderation when commenting for the first time

When you leave a comment on a single page like here http://rowanista.com/?p=28 you will get “your comment is awaiting moderation, but when you post a comment here http://rowanista.com , the comment popup window automatically closes and people tend to think “did it go through?” There is no moderation window or if the commentor is not a first time commentor, the window just closes as opposed to either showing a moderation window for first time commentors or the commentors actual comment should they not be a first time commentor. Was hoping someone could tell me which code I need to add to the comments-popup.php file so that the comment popup window will stay open and show that either the comment is being moderated or actually show the commentor’s comment.
