I am thinking about using wordpress on a site I am currently building… and this is my first site. I would be using the most current version. It’s a learning experience. I was wondering if WordPress logged the IP addresses where comments originate. Also, if so are they only viewable to the administrator and where are they viewed?

If not, is there a plugin that will perform this function?

I searched for information in the forums but only found one related post about someone’s comments all showing the same IP address. I need information on whether it is an original aspect of WordPress or a plugin and how it works.

Yes, WordPress will log the comment IP addresses. It will be viewable in the Manage -> Comments control panel when you login to your Dashboard. By default, it can only be seen in the control panel though there are several plugins that allow you to display them on site.

There are also plugins that extends the “logging” idea and can report countries, referrers, operating systems, etc.
