    Symptoms...

    1) in my sidebar in recent comments it shows the linkable author's name and a linkable post name. in between these two links it reads "not found on". so everything here works normally but something is not correct.

    2) i tried several 2.5 approved plugs for "show top commentor" and it shows only those commentors AFTER the plugin was installed and it does not show any of the other commentors on prior posts. this is true even when i deactivate/reactivate the plugins.

    3) i have a plug called "easy IP2 country" which should show a flag next to the authors name. however, there is no flag, but the name of the country appears after the name.

    4) in manage post mode i see the comments lists and when i mouse over the number in the comment column a prompt says "0 pending" , so that appears normal

    5) i can see all the comments, everything looks correct except for 1) - 3)

    6) i have tried it with the following plugins both on/off = commentluv, easy IP2country, wavatars, top commentators.

    1) Needs to see the site
    2) I believe that's normal, because the plugin only start counting the top commenters after being installed, but you can manually edit it in the database I blieve. shouldn't be hard.
    3) Sames as #1, but my guess is that you didn't upload the folder that contains the flag images.

    haochi,

most definitely added the flags folder. the only difference is the original site (v2.1.1) had v0.9 IP2 plug and new site (v2.5.1) has v0.91beta installed. the plugin has several folders (as you seem to know) = flags, ip2c, temp, and the php file.

here is the site = petmonologues.com/pet022207

    What's this?
    http://www.petmonologues.com/pet022207/wp-content/plugins/easy_ip2country/flags/us.png

    It says NOT FOUND

Not sure about the not found on problem, but most likely you have added something to sidebar.php or in the Widget.

nope. most everything at this point is out of the box. there is code of course in the theme that was used in v2.1.1 something is not right...

not sure what your path to ip2 means either at this point. what are you supposed to see following this path?...

you have a very interesting site!

Well, I am guessing that you use Firefox based on what you wrote but that doesn't matter.

Right click on the text that says the country name.

And it leads to the link that I posted above.

Just upload the flags folder will ya?

(OT: My personal blog is even more interesting.)

here is why you got a 404 from your link above. YOUR link was wrong. try this =

    http://www.petmonologues.com/pet022207/wp-content/plugins/easy-ip2country/flags/us.png

the flag directory has always been up there.

    ALSO

look at the CURRENT COMMENTS and see the NOT FOUND stuff = there is a problem...

The country flags of the plugins should be in the
easy_ip2country/flags/ directory because that's what the plugin asks for, but you have placed them in easy-ip2country/flags/

(see the difference? underscore and the hyphen)

I guess it's the plugin's fault, you can fixed that by manually editing the plugin's .php files.

If you still don't get it, I know not how to explain it further.

    OK, IP2 fixed!

Back to why isn't recent comments working correctly. I have two sites running with same theme, database. The only difference, one is v2.5 the other is 2.1.1. The v2.5 recent comments still broken. I have deactivated plugins, switched themes. In some themes the recent comments do not even show up. They show up on my site but continue to say NOT FOUND following an author name.

OK, in addition to trying to fix 1) & 2) just noticed that RECENT POSTS do not appear in the sidebar either. In summary, two default sidebar widgets, RECENT POSTS and RECENT COMMENTS are buggy.

I also did a complete reinstall. of v2.5.1
