[resolved] Combine Users across two WP installs (4 posts)

I've been looking for a little bit but have been unsuccessful in finding an answer. Perhaps I'm searching with the wrong terms..

Anyway, I'm trying to figure out how to go about combining user databases. As well as use a common login and registration page. Considering all the great things the WP community has available, I would figure this would be a common issue with a quick solution... Or maybe I'm just a dumb dumb.

I pretty much just need to figure out how to make install #2 gather it's user info from install #1's database. My head hurts.

If anyone could point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.

  2. You want to use WPMU (or wait with WP 3.0 is out which has MU built in .. or vice versa depending on your point of view).

Sorry, that didn't help your head, did it?

http://mu.wordpress.org/ may be what you want :)

Wowwww, I remember reading about MU but never actually looked into it. Thanks!

Is it able to be installed over WP, or will I have to do it completely seperate... and will bbpress be able to integrate with this?

My end goal is to have a blog, wiki, and forum using press-things.

  4. Starting from version 3.0, WP will let you switch to a multiple-site hook up (at least today the development plan says they intend to let current single site WP blogs switch to multi-site blogs). And bbPress works with WPMU today (see http://buddypress.com for how cool it can get) so it should still work.

Moving from WP to WPMU is a bit of a headache today, especially if you have a lot of users, and I'm waiting for 3.0 to roll out, personally.
