Column count value not working for categories (2 posts)

    Hi,
    I'm having a shop page which has to show on the top level only the categories. I added the setting which hides products if a sub-category is visible. I changed the default post number value to 3 (WP settings) and that works well for the category archives.

    The problem is that the number of visible categories on the shop page stays on 4 and I can't change it. It should be three and the pagination links should become visible.

    I tried also a filter function that changes the value for
    $woocommerce_loop['columns']

    and I changed also the filter value inside the file content-product_cat.php to

    $woocommerce_loop['columns'] = apply_filters( 'loop_shop_columns', 3 );

    Nothing helps, it seems like all these values are ignored, anyone an idea how to fix that? Is there something I forgot?

    Seems like I was looking in the wrong direction...
    The column count is only used for the presentation and I like to limit the number of categories per page (/shop/ and /shop/page/2/)

    Is there a way to do that in WooCommerce or does someone know and easy way to do that in WordPress?
