[resolved] Colour discrepancy (13 posts)

When I view my blog posts (mainly in Firefox, but the issue also occurs to some extent in IE) the colour photographs appear washed out and yet, if I click the image to open it as a standalone picture, the colours are perfect. Does anyone know why this might happen? If it was a colour profile error then surely it would apply to the image in the blog and the larger version too?

PS - The very first image is oversaturated to try and compensate - try an image from further down the post.

    Many thanks!

Check with your hosts that they are running the most up-to-date version of the GD Library PHP module.

Hi Esmi - thanks so much for your quick reply!

I've been in touch with them and they have responded "GD Version bundled (2.0.34 compatible)". Doesn't mean much to me to be honest :-(

They also gave me this address to check the php versions etc. http://www.silverphotography.co.uk/phpinfo.php

Hmmm... How would I go about updating it then? Is it something I can do myself if I have FTP access to my server?

If it is something they will have to do could you be kind enough to tell me what the latest version is so that I can get them to fix it.

    Many thanks!

The version of GD Library (2.3.9) that I have is bundled with PHP 5.3. You could ask them to upgrade your server.

    OK, thanks!

From what I've read online this PHP module creates the thumbnails for my post, which is why the full-size versions are unaffected. If I therefore resize my images to 600px wide (the size of my theme) before uploading them then will that alleviate the issue?

It would help if you stuck to full size images that would fit your current theme's layout (eg 600px) yes.

Just so you know. Firstly, my web hosts have said they are going to update my PHP in the next couple of weeks. And secondly, I;ve experimented and resized to 600px prior to upload and it works perfectly!

Excellent news on both fronts. :-)
