• Where can I find a visual resource that will show me what color is generated by an abbreviated (3 digit) hex code?

I can do 6 digit codes in photoshop, but if I only enter 3 digits in Photoshop, it adds digits to make it 6 and then it’s a different color.

I’m pulling my hair out trying to modify the menu colors in Twenty Ten via the stylesheet.

    Thanks!

  • Don’t edit the Twenty Ten theme! Your changes will be over-written the next time you upgrade WordPress or the theme. For this reason, it is recommended that you consider creating a child theme for your customisations.

In the meantime, try googling on hexadecimal color codes.

Wow thanks for the info on Child Themes – I’ll do that.

As far as googling hex codes – I’ve done that and all I see are representations of 6 digit codes. I guess I’ll try modifying my search terms.

All identical triplets can be reduced to three code shortened versions. So #ffffff = #fff and #666666 = #666

    #123 = #112233
    #a3f = #aa33ff

Thanks. My brain went completely blank trying to come up with good examples of abbreviated color codes. 🙂

Thank you for both clearing that up. I was typing “fff” into photoshop for example, and it would add zeros to make it “000fff” (or maybe it was “fff000” I don’t remember) but anyway, it certainly wasn’t the same color as “fff”
