Color changed on side bar titles and I don't know why (16 posts)

    I am starting my first blog and already very frustrated. I finally got all my pages and pictures up and linked but then something happened because the color of the Side Bar title bar for the widgets changed from green (as in the original theme) to brown. I don't know if I unknowingly hit something or what. Please Help ASAP.

    The side bar widget title box color is not a choice on the theme customization so I don't know why or how it changed.

    And my hosting site doesn't have a backup.

    Thanks.

    My site is tangible-treasures.com

    Hi jstrachan99,

    As I inspect the css code of the Scrappy theme, the green color on your widget title is an image

    `#secondary h2.widget-title, #secondary h2.widget-title a:link, #secondary h2.widget-title a:visited {
    background-color: #603029;
    background-image: url("img/gbg.gif");
    }

    And on your site the image has gone, that's why the color #603029 which is the brown color was the only appearing on your site.

    Do you use child theme to customize your wordpress site?

    I have never used a child theme before. This my first time at starting a blog and I'm finding the learning curve steep and slippery. :-) Can you walk me through it? n I'd greatly appreciate it.

    You can read more about child theme and how to create it in this link:

    Ok I'm trying to get this to work. After this part:

    /* =Theme customization starts here
    -------------------------------------------------------------- */

    in the child theme do I just copy and paste what you typed above which is:
    `#secondary h2.widget-title, #secondary h2.widget-title a:link, #secondary h2.widget-title a:visited {
    background-color: #603029;
    background-image: url("img/gbg.gif");
    }

    Orr is there something else I need to type in. By the way I truly appreciate your help.

    Have you created a new folder for your child theme on your theme directory? (wp-content/themes)

    I guess I'll have to delete everything and start again I don't know how to get the original background image and color back for the side bar and the brown is too dark.

    Have you done any customization on your theme before? If not, try to remove/delete your scrappy theme and then upload and install it again.

    Apparently I can't even resort to drastic measures because even when I delete the scrappy theme and re-install the same thing is happening.

    Please someone help me. Any ideas. What do I put in the child theme to get the image and color back.

    The main background and the widget background has an image which is included in the theme file. You can add the follwing CSS rule in your stylesheet:

    `#secondary h2.widget-title, #secondary h2.widget-title a:link, #secondary h2.widget-title a:visited {
    background-image: url("img/gbg.gif");
    }

    body.custom-background {
    background-image: url("http://wp-themes.com/wp-content/themes/scrappy/img/bg.gif");
    }

    I have even bigger problems now. Now from my WP admin view if I go to customize everything looks great but when I go to actually view the site its all text without any of the theme formatting.

    I'm desperate. Please help me someone.

    OK I'm still up working on this and I'm back to my original problem of the side bar widgets being brown instead of green as in the theme.

    So I get that the side bar widgets are an image but how do I get them back. What do I type into the child theme.

    Ok so now I'm obviously sleep deprived and which only adds to my sadness over how hard I've worked on this blog only to now have problems with the theme when I'm ready to publish my very first post ever.

    So to summarize my is the color of the widgets on the right side bar are brown and they are suppose to be green.

    Second, I've noticed that the linen texture to those side bar widget titles as well as the brown background of the theme page is gone. I know that Jay said earlier that the side bar was an image I wonder if the linen texture is the image. Could a downloaded plugin have caused these problems?

    Please help me somebody. I'm wondering if I need to uninstall wordpress and start all over. I've already tried uninstall and then reinstalling Scrappy and it didn't work.

    Yes the linen texture is an image. You don't need to uninstall your wordpress, I think you only have done something that prevent the image to appear. I can't say exactly what to do since I don't have access to your dashboard to see what went wrong.
