    Hello I am trying to change the background colour behind my text on my pages, in firebug I changed this by adding background black.

    element.style {
    text-align: center;
    background-color: black;
    }

    but when I drop this into my child themes style.css it does nothing.

    here is a link to my site http://harrybuild.rookandamosdesign.co.uk/

    any help would be very much appreciated

    Harry

    element.style refers to inline CSS styles. In an external stylesheet, you need to use a selector (i.e. id, class or tag).

    In your case, perhaps #primary or #content, depending on what exactly you want to color.
