Collapse vertical admin menus? (3 posts)

I thought it was cool at first that WordPress would remember which admin menus I had opened so that it could re-open them when I moved to a new page. But I actually now find it quite annoying; I get too many of them open and have to manually close them all to fit the sidebar back inside my browser. I wish when I went to a new page, it would only expand the vertical menu for the section the current page is under, but collapse all the others.

Does anyone have any ideas how to write a plugin for this? (The code that opens these up is in wp-admin/js/common.js, line 284-285. I can change this code to get it not to add the wp-menu-open class, but I don't know enough about JavaScript or WordPress plugins to figure out how to hack this.)

I don't know how to do what you want with the default menus, but I review a very nice alternative here: http://educhalk.org/blog/?p=93

I'd like to bump this since I have the same problem and I'd really like to find a way to fix it :\
