FIrst, I'm working all offline, in localhost with MAMP.
I have developed a WordPress site but became curious about using multisite to establish sections in one whole site, that could use different themes. For example, a section (i.e., network site within a multisite configuration) that could be a support site, using some of the more recently develop support / ticket themes available. Or, a video site, also using a distinct theme.
I have a number of questions and some problems.
One problem is that the site I have almost ready, that I want to use as one "section" of a whole multisite installation, doesn't import well. I was using the Export / Import function, and copying over plugins, etc. according to instructions here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Migrating_Multiple_Blogs_into_WordPress_3.0_Multisite
I face a problem because the theme I'm using for that site has customised post types (e.g., Slider is a separate post type) that fail to import. I can go and set all the site up again, but it's hardly the optimal situation.
So, on that issue, is there *any* cloning plugin that can close a normal WP install INTO multisite? The only plugin I found is WP Replicator, but it will only clone an existing multisite site.
(It sucks that BackupBuddy doesn't work with multisite!)
On the same general issue, how am I going to be able to put all of this online when it comes to it, without going through some nightmarish process of rehashing everything? Can a localhost multisite be cloned to a real domain?
I want, finally, to have multiple installs running within subdirectories. Is this going to pose a problem when going from localhost to online?
Thanks for any answers!
