• Hi,

I want to do a clean install, but I also want to import all my old content. I know that I could do a very tedious import/export, but my database is 250MB and unfortunately my blog uses plugins and has additional tables in the database whose data wouldn’t get exported.

I have updated the current installation to 3.8 and I have updated all the plugins. I did the mysqldump after doing so.

If I import my database into a clean install, are there going to be any issues? Is a database from an installation that has been updated over the last 10 years to 3.8 going to be perfectly compatible with a new install of 3.8?

  • It should be, yes. However, if there is any damage to the old db, that too will be copied over. I’d also imagine that you have a ton of stuff in the old db that you don’t want any more (eg redundant plugin tables, old revisions), so now might be a good time to have a complete clear out by going for the import/export option.
