• Question regarding configuring existing wordpress installation into a multisite network.

Current WP Installation: http://www.example.com/worpress (use permalinks)

Want the ability to share theme and plugins (theme and plugins are located in one directory on the existing installation) with:

    subdomain1.example.com
    subdomain2.example.com
    example2.com

I believe this is possible using a multistage network and domain mapping plugin.

I’ve looked over the Create a Network doc and the following question regarding the WordPress Settings Requirements:

Q: Do I need to move my existing installation from http://www.example.com/worpress to http://www.example.com to allow multisite subdomain install to work?

Just wanted to make sure before I dive into this.

  • Yes you do.

Technically it will work where it is, but would have /wordpress/ in the addresses, which you do not want. And domain mapping will not work either.

So you have to move it.
