Your Child Theme stylesheet (style.css file) should only have CSS in it, not HTML.
Use Codex’s article on this as guidance.
Not sure what that means, but here is what’s in the style.css file
/*
Theme Name: child of minimatica
Description: Cool child theme based on minimatica
Author: Heather Kehoe
Version: 0.0.1
Template: minimatica
*/
@import url(‘../minimatica/style.css’);
There is no style.css file on your server!
Hi esmi,
I apologize, I’m still a little new to this. I have the style sheet under child of minimatica. When I click on the link you’ve attached it takes me to the unformatted child site of minimatica.
Meaning my ftp? I’ve been altering files on my hard drive and then uploading them onto my ftp site, which seems to update wordpress. I’m starting to think I’m updating the wrong thing?
Meaning my ftp?
Yes. Ensure that the child theme’s folder has been correctly uploaded to wp-content/themes.
Ok. I just uploaded the themes folder onto wp-content/themes and nothing changed, it still looks the same. What am I doing wrong????
Not sure yet. What happens if you switch back to the parent theme?
It reverts back to the generic minimatica theme.
So the issue is definitely in your child theme. What application are you using to create your child’s style.css file?
Try using a plain text editor such as Notepad.
Sorry, I’m working on a mac, so I had to download jedit. Just re-wrote the style.css, but it didn’t change anything. Thanks again for helping me!
Download a pre-made Twenty Twelve child theme from here and see if that works on your site.
