    Hi,

Okay this is all very very strange. I installed and activated a child theme directory. When I go into Appearance/Theme editor, the theme is there, When I go into Appearance/Theme Manage, its there also. But, when i go into the wp-content/themes folder and look for the Twentyten-child directory everything is GONE! Poof!

By everything gone, I mean the Twentyten-child. The parent directory Twentyten is still there.

Is this a bug or something? Kind of hard to copy a folder later if I can't see it.

I guess I should also tell you I was having a hard time when I wrote a child theme (style.css) myself earlier. I couldn't find it anywhere to activate it. So I received some fantastic help on here, and thats how I got the Twentyten-child activated in the first place.

How can a folder just disappear!!!!

Scratching my head about this one.

Oh one more thing, I don't think I want to work on the Child Theme pages and styles when there is a problem with the folder (directory) disappearing do I? I'd hate to add everything and then lose that also.

Your currently running theme is /twentyten-child/. It has not disappeared.

Yes. The theme /twentyten-child/ is in the Dashboard/Appearances/Themes.

It is running, but, the folder directory / style.css / functions.php are missing from the /themes folder/ and are no longer seen on the Web server via the FTP.

The parent /twentyten/ is there in the /themes folder/

    /twentyten-child/ itself is gone.

Not sure how the /twentyten-child/ is running when the folder and everything is gone from the /Themes/ folder.

I don't think I want to write on the /style.css/functions.php/ in the Appearances Editor when the directory and the css and php are invisible.

This looks like a foreseeable problem to me if I start to use the CSS when there is no folder seen on the Web Server.

And yes, I have also refreshed the connection several times for my Web Server via FTP. I even used another form of FTP to check the Web Server and the child directory is still missing.

I'm totally dumbfounded by the whole thing. As I said above I think it might be invisible, since it is running. But what the heck???????

Have any ideas about what I should do next?

    /twentyten-child/ itself is gone.

How do you know? Set your FTP to show hidden files or login to your hosting account and verify. If it is NOT there, how do I state the exact name?

Not sure how the /twentyten-child/ is running

Simple. If it is not there, it cannot run. A child theme can have only CSS in its directory.

Anyway, it IS IN ITS DIRECTORY (I will give you proof).

    Any other problem?

    I have used your suggestions.

Sad to say, FTP did not show it as hidden.

Logged into my hosting account /twentyten/ is there but still no /twentyten-child/

Obviously, I realize it couldn't run without it being somewhere.

    http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Ftesting.innerdesign.us%2F&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline&ss=1&group=1&user-agent=W3C_Validator%2F1.3

I think you can see it here. It is at line 7, if you go and check your URL at the above URL.

I have conducted a few more tests and it shows the theme is corrupt/badly coded. That can be the reason you cannot see it.

What you need to do is to upload a fresh copy of twentyten (it is updated now) and make a correct/ valid CSS file and upload it to your child directory.

    I hope you understand.

I finally found it! It is in the /testing/ folder which for whatever reason I do not have access to it through my FTP from my web hosting.

Thanks so much for you help.
