    Hi,

    Thanks again for the theme!
    I'm trying to create a child theme but can't get the right thing to work...

    I create a new folder "vantage-child" and placed a new style.css file.
    Here is what I wrote in it:

    /*
    Theme Name:     vantage child
    Description: child theme for the Vantage theme
    Template:       vantage
    */

    @import url("../vantage/style.css");

    /* =Start From Here
    -------------------------------------------------------------- */

    For some reason, the original style.css is not imported correctly as when I activate the child theme, there is absolutely no formatting to the web page.
    I tried to use a plugin which automatically creates child theme, but everything was messed up (pulling pictures where they shouldn't appear, menu completely messed up...).

    Thanks in advance for your help, and sorry if this is a dummy question.

    Hi ThomasVig,

    Try going here:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes

    read those steps and see if you missed anything. One thing I would check is where you placed your new folder. It has to be in the exact location. Otherwise you need to change your @import url function to match where the folder is at.

    Thanks JaredOrr!

    I had a look at this already, this is how I built built the original child theme. What I don't understand is that the child theme folder is in "themes" (same place as the master theme), but @import does not seem to work...

    Any thoughts?

    Just one last one.

    The way I set up my child themes is I just copy that text box from the codex and edit as necessary. For example:

    /*
    Theme Name: Twenty Fourteen Child
    Theme URI: http://example.com/twenty-fourteen-child/
    Description: Twenty Fourteen Child Theme
    Author: John Doe
    Author URI: http://example.com
    Template: twentyfourteen
    Version: 1.0.0
    Tags: light, dark, two-columns, right-sidebar, responsive-layout, accessibility-ready
    Text Domain: twenty-fourteen-child
    */

    @import url("../twentyfourteen/style.css");

    /* =Theme customization starts here
    -------------------------------------------------------------- */

    into:

    /*
    Theme Name: Vantage Child
    Theme URI: http://example.com/twenty-fourteen-child/
    Description: Vantage Child Theme
    Author: Jared Orr
    Author URI: http://yourdomain.com
    Template: vantage
    Version: 1.0.0
    Text Domain: vantage-child
    */

    @import url("../vantage/style.css");

    Hope that helps. If it fails again. Try deleting the file and doing it again. Only takes a minute.

    Thanks again!
    Unfortunately it does not work, everything is messed up when I activate the child theme.

    Many thanks, I appreciate the time you spent!

    Sorry I couldn't help out more. I would try reinstalling the theme altogether. If it ever doesn't work for me I turn it off and back on again. Might work. Good Luck!

    Can you Tell if Vantage uses more than one style sheet? If it does you may have to load each of those in your child.

    Good luck

    ThomasVIg,

    Your code is incomplete...
    You have to declare what version is your parent's theme...among others !

    Theme Name: vantage-child
    Theme-URI: ???? here you put your info http://yoursite.com/vantage-child
    Author : Your name
    AuthorURI : your personal site
    Template : vantage (parent's theme name
    Version : ???? (this is the version's number of your parent name : for example 1.3.2

    No, you don't need the version number, it's optional...
