• Hi,

    So I’m going to be using a child theme soon in order to make some changes to the theme I’m currently using. Before I ask my question I’ll just state what my understanding of a child theme is (please correct if wrong);

    A child theme has the ability to duplicate a theme that you have set up on your website. That duplicate (child theme) will then be used as your main theme and allows you to make modifications to that theme without destroying the original theme. The child theme also won’t be affect by updates as that will only affect the original so you won’t lose all of your work….

    So, my question: If I create a child theme and make lots of amendments to that theme am I then able to make a child theme of that child theme? The reason being, If I’ve spent hours modifying a child theme and I mess something up I can’t really use the original theme as that won’t look anything like my modified child theme. By making a child theme of an already modified child theme I then have a back up that is similar to what I’d be using…

    Sorry if this is a silly question, I’m very new to this gig 😉

    Thanks,
    Ben

  • I see what you’re saying, but keeping backups of modifications is probably how you need to do this.

    If your child theme files are also stored on your computer, it’s pretty easy to save backup versions in case you need to fall back.
