[resolved] Child categories not working? (6 posts)

My child categories are not working. (they call the 404)

I've probably overlooked something really obvious, since I can't find other posts about this. (sigh...)

    Thanks for any help...

example is "islam" - a child of "religion"

(Oh - and yes, I know the 404 page is a mess. That is on the list of things still to fix.)

Somehow it seems that the permalinks doesn't work as the should. The "islam" category is found under "http://www.polimom.com/category/islam/" but not under
    "http://www.polimom.com/category/religion/islam/".

Have you tried to delete the "islam" category from Manage Categories and then recreate it as a subcategory. Something may have got wrong when you saved the hierarchical structure to the database.

    Hi petit,

Thank you for the quick response.

I tried your suggestion, but it met with the same result.

    sigh...

Sorry to hear that. I must admit, I don't have a clue as to what might have happened.
I would try this though, in case your permalink structure is broken.
    1. Delete the content of your .htaccess file, that is: save an empty .htacess file. ( Don't forget the backup first )
    2. Make sure it is writable by the web server.
    3. Go to your Options/Permalink and check that you have the structure you want, and click "Update Permalink Structure". WordPress should now write the necessary rewrite rules to your .htaccess file.

If this doesn't work, reinstall your backup and hope for better suggestions.

I'm so sorry - I meant to post back on resolution.

We had to do a fresh install of WP to fix the problem. It's working now, though.

We suspect it had something to do with upgrading from 2.0 to 2.0.1.

    Thanks for all the help.

    Happy to hear that!
If the car won't start, unstrap, leave the car, step in, mount safety belt, turn key, eh voila!
